PADONMA TEA HOUSE
Taikkyi, Myanmartea house & garden
2024
Padonma Teahouse offers an experience of tranquility and rest for tea drinking guests through the interplay of light and shadows, dining arrangements around irori hearths, and the use of natural untreated wood as the primary material.
Guests are welcomed through a corridor that opens into a dining hall overlooking a sunlit garden. Dining tables surround warm hearths, creating a space where light and shadow harmoniously interact, with the dark ambiance contrasting the natural glow outside. Raindrops cascade from the terracotta roof without gutters, producing a soothing symphony during the monsoon’s embrace.
Wood ages beautifully, deepening in color and enriching the dark ambiance of the space over time. As the building matures, it promotes a continuous cycle of atmospheric regeneration, elevating the tranquility and setting for better enjoyment of tea.
